In 1962, with three generations of electrical workers
preceding, Gerry Thomas was asked to help his grandfather
upgrade services from fuse box technology to newer "hi-tech"
molded case circuit breakers. By 1969, Mr. Thomas had become
an accomplished electrician, earning his Master Electrician
license in 1972. Working for a large company that had been an
REA constructor from the 1940’s to 1960’s, Mr. Thomas became
an accomplished lineman.
From 1972 through 1987, Mr. Thomas concentrated on
instrumentation and control, power distribution and substation
systems for various major utilities and institutions. With a
special interest in hospital systems, Mr. Thomas installed the
first "multiplex" life/safety system in Ohio. A secondary
interest in airport lighting and navigational instruments
persuaded Mr. Thomas to earn an Airline Transport Pilot
license from the FAA.
In 1987, Mr. Thomas founded his own electrical contracting
company, working exclusively for major electrical utilities
performing construction, maintenance, and storm restoration.
In 1999, Mr. Thomas sold the business and began consulting for
three large Ohio companies helping to expand their utility
businesses.
In 2003, Mr. Thomas became a manufacturer’s
representative for power distribution and power quality
equipment. In 2005, Mr. Thomas incorporated The Gerry Thomas
Co.
With over 40 years experience in both utility and C & I
market segments of the electrical industry, The Gerry Thomas
Co. brings a unique combination of assets to both Principles
and customers alike!
